This exercise consisted in the detailing of an existing building in Switzerland designed by architect studio Bearth & Deplazes. It is a house located in a mountain region, with windows pushed in the thick concrete exterior wall.
To reach the standard UR values according to the Dutch normative, an insulation plate of 100 mm was placed in between of the 200 mm slates of concrete. The concrete used is the same as the choice of the Swiss architects: insulating concrete containing grains of foam glass. This type of concrete has a higher insulation and strength value than regular poured concrete.
The detailing follows as much as possible the original architectural design, as well as meet the building physical and structural standards.
